Zetas Take Justice Into Their Own Hands
Hey all, this is Justin Ng aka “Bonkers” and I’ll be taking over as your new friendly neighborhood Gamma Chapter Zeta blogger. I’ll be spicing up the SC Zetas web site by offering insight and commentary on all issues related to Zeta Phi Rho. I’m pretty open to comments and/or suggestions so if there’s a topic you want covered or if you have any questions let me know at justinsn@usc.edu.
This past Friday, on January 30 a few of the other bros and I witnessed a crime in our immediate community. Not content to sit idle and allow injustice to advance any further, Zetas took the crime into their own hands.
Here’s an excerpt from the e-mail that USC DPS sent out to the community on February 2:
Incident: Sexual Battery Arrest
Date: January 30, 2009
Location: 2900 Block of West Hoover St. (Off Campus)
Description: On the evening of January 30, 2009, a suspect approached
a female student from behind and grabbed her buttocks. The incident was witnessed by another student who chased after the suspect and called DPS.
The student victim also immediately called DPS to report the crime.
Disposition: DPS officers on patrol in the area located and
detained the suspect immediately after the crime. The student was able
to positively identify the suspect. The suspect was subsequently
arrested and booked for 243.4 P.C. Sexual battery and 11359 H&S possesses of marijuana for sale, at LAPD Southwest Station.
Now this incident requires a bit of explanation. We were all coming back from Catholic Big Brothers (CBB), our weekly philanthropy at Ascot Elementary School where we mentor and play with kids at the school. As we entered the university area and approached our house minding our own business and reflecting upon our philanthropy-filled days, we saw a man sprinting full throttle down West Hoover Street. Behind him was an injured, shocked-looking woman. Momentarily stunned by these strange yet disturbing series of events, we followed the man closely by car and yelled at the man to stop. When the man proved uncooperative, my big bro Vernon Roque and I bursted out of the car and pursued the man on foot.
Vernon was the first to approach the man, and yelled “Hey buddy! Stop man!” The man continued running but took a swing at Vernon with his backpack. Our president Ryan Sung, along with his lil bro Izachar Sapigao was the first to contact DPS. Vernon kept up the amazing task of running while talking to DPS at the same time. Fortunately, the man was winded and a bit out of shape, which made our chase a bit easier. Eventually, after chasing the man for about a mile, DPS drove by and caught the man at an intersection. Game over, criminal.
In retrospect, had we not eradicated the threat in such an effective manner, this may have been a dangerous event. But it’s ok. It was just another day in the life of a Zeta. We’re here to help. We’re here to be the distinguished gentlemen of Zeta Phi Rho.
